The Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) is a member of the Helmholtz Association (HGF) and funded by federal and state government. AWI focuses on polar and marine research in a variety of disciplines such as biology, oceanography, geology, geochemistry and geophysics thus allowing multidisciplinary approaches to scientific goals.
In the framework of the project “Size is important ! Sub-micrometer microplastics in the marine environment ?” (WT.SH FIT project) we are seeking for a PostDoc Chemistry
for nano-FTIR analysis of microplastics

Tasks :
We extended our analysis platforms by a nano-FTIR Imaging system. The PostDoc will be responsible for operating and maintaining the system for the analysis of synthetic polymers (microplastics and nanoplastics) in the aquatic environment.
Requirements :
 PhD in chemistry
 Experience in AFM microscopy and FTIR spectroscopy
 Beneficial : Experience in polymer science
 Excellent team work capabilities in a multidisciplinary team
 Fluency in English and German (written and spoken)
 Willingness of mentoring students (Master, PhD)
 Publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international conferences

The position is limited to 3 years and advertised subject to availability of funding. The salary will be paid in accordance with the German Tarifvertrag des öffentlichen Dienstes (TVöD Bund) up to salary group 13, based on qualifications and transferred tasks. The place of employment will be Helgoland.
