Postdoctoral Scientist

Several MPI-M working groups will contribute to CMIP6 (Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6). The successful candidate will support the Coupled Model Steering Group in the coordination of the experimental strategy and the scientific analyses. As member of a small team he/she will support the groups along the production chain of the experiments, submission of the data to international archives, until evaluation and publication of results.

Qualifications / Experience

  • A PhD or equivalent degree in meteorology, oceanography, geoscience, informatics or a related field.
  • Experience with Earth system simulations, preferentially with MPI-ESM.
  • Strong programming skills in Fortran, post-processing and visualization software (e.g., NCL, CDO, FERRET, MATLAB), as well as experience in handling large data sets.
  • Strong communication and organizing skills.

Employment conditions

  • The position is offered for three years, starting from May 2016.
  • Payment will be in accordance with German public service positions (TVoeD E14), including extensive social security plans. The conditions of employment, including upgrades and duration, follow the rules of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Sciences and those of the German civil service.
