Postdoctoral / project coordinator position at Limnology Center and APHYS

The Limnology Center and the Laboratory of Physics of Aquatic Systems (APHYS) at IIE / ENAC / EPFL Lausanne (Switzerland) have a joint opening for a combined postdoctoral position which includes coordination duties.
The Limnology Center, funded in 2013, aims at fostering national and international interdisciplinary collaboration in aquatic systems. Recent projects include the study of Life Under the Ice (Lake Onego), and the development of a Research Platform on Lake Geneva (LéXPLORE) for high frequency interdisciplinary measurements. The Limnology Center is looking for an early-career scientist interested in developing skills in the management of scientific projects while conducting top quality research. The successful candidate will be expected to assist in the operational activity, to acquire external (international) funding, to coordinate interdisciplinary projects in the Limnology Center and to conduct his own research, preferably in relation to Aquatic Physics (http://aphys.epfl.ch/). The post-doc will be supervised by the Director and Deputy Director of the Limnology Center and be hosted by the Physics of Aquatic Systems Laboratory (APHYS).

Your profile

  • PhD in aquatic sciences, environmental engineering, or remote sensing
  • Research interest and background in modern sensor (monitoring) technology, large data sets, and interdisciplinary research projects with experience in collaborating with aquatic physics
  • Experience in project management and in creating new projects
  • Excellent communication skills (presentations, facilitating meetings, websites,
  • newsletters)
  • Demonstrated interest in a scientific career including quality publications
  • Excellent knowledge of English (French is of additional advantage).

Your tasks

  • 30% management of the daily activity of the Limnology Center (including coordination of projects and proposals, accounting, admin, logistics, fieldwork, reporting, organization of workshops and promoting visibility in media)
  • 70% development of interdisciplinary research (including fieldwork, publications and collaboration / supervision of Masters / PhD students within projects).

Starting date : immediately, on the basis of competitive application (position is open until filled ; start of interviews end of June 2016).

Contract duration : minimum 2 years (further extension on mutual agreement).
