Two Postdoctoral positions in Cloud and Boundary Layer Dynamics

Version imprimable de cet article

The modeling of the turbulent dynamics of clouds and boundary layers constitutes one of the most important challenges in climate dynamics. Uncertainties in it are the dominant contributor to uncertainties in climate change projections.

Through the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Postdoctoral Scholars Program at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), we invite applications for two postdoctoral research positions to advance the modeling of cloud and boundary layer dynamics. The postdoctoral scholars will use remote sensing data and state-of-the-art large eddy simulations to develop new and improved approaches of modeling the dynamics of boundary layers and convection in a unified framework. The goal is the implementation of the framework as a parameterization in climate and weather prediction models, to study the interaction of clouds and boundary layers with large-scale dynamics.

Candidates are expected to have completed a doctoral degree in atmospheric or oceanic sciences, fluid dynamics, physics, engineering or a related field at the time of the appointment. Experience with numerical models of fluid flows is desirable.

For further information about the position, please contact Joao Teixeira or Tapio Schneider or visit our websites : science.jpl.nasa.gov/people/Teixeira and www.climate-dynamics.org.

Applications with a curriculum vitae, a one-page statement of research interests, and three letters of recommendation should be sent to : Jen Shechet. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the positions are filled.
